If you were to do a poll today with the majority of local and national citizens expressing their confidence level in the recovery of the economy right now, you will probably get an overwhelming amount of depressing, bleak answers. These concerns, along with health care and the job market are among the major issues many political candidates and current officials are facing, as they engage in town hall meetings, debates and stomp across the city, state and national circuits.

In the same sense, many businesses across the country are trying to stay in survival mode. This is not only prominent among many small businesses, but major corporations are pruning locations, staffing and excess spending.
Let's face it, the economy is pretty tough right now and consumer spending is even tighter. There are many corporate, national and global factors affecting how people are spending their hard earned dollars these days. There is a haunting fact that resonates throughout the country defining how extremely cautious people are about spending during a time when the economy is unstable, consumer debt is extremely high and a major election is approaching. To stay in business you've got to do something; but what? Certainly doing NOTHING is not an option!

Small businesses and major corporations are having to sit down, reevaluate and methodically come up with creative marketing strategies to simply break even. Strategic marketing goes beyond business cards, ROP, mailers and television ads. It's all about maintaining long term relationships that will re-build consumer confidence.  When you do, you will have the success that your competitors don't, because you 
 choose to boldly go where they neglected to go. Boldness in attitude and fortitude were
 major components with many startup businesses that began during the Great 
 Depression. Surviving was just as challenging then as it is now, but still today you will 
 find that many of those businesses are "still" in business. Giving up was not an option for 
 them and it shouldn't be for us either. We must learn to persevere just like the 
 businesses that began during the agricultural and industrial eras did. Let's face it, we 
 certainly have more marketing resources now, able to reach throughout global sectors, 
 than they did during those eras.

So, what does your future hold? Of course none of us has that magical crystal ball to peer into because if we did, we would certainly not be discussing the sluggish economy, what to do about the rising cost of gasoline prices and food, or where do we go from here to rebuild or renovate our business. Our tomorrows are shaped by what we do today. Don't waste an opportunity to do better when you know better. No deposit...no return!
